6 Simple Steps to Open Your Pool the Correct Way This Spring

If you own a pool, then you know that spring opening is one of the most exciting times of the year, but then again, you know that it’s also one of the most stressful times of the year. If you’re struggling to get your pool just right when you open it every spring, then you might want to read this. Ask any of the pool experts at Carlton Pools, a swimming pool company that does business in Lehigh County, and they will recite you a list of how to ensure that your pool is ready to make a splash. Here are the steps in that list:

1.    Drain, remove, and clean the pool cover - For winter covers, it’s best to drain as much water as possible before removing the pool cover with a submersible pump. Use two people, if available, to remove the pool cover. Once it’s removed, clean with a brush and talcum powder to prevent mold. Store the cover in a cool, dry place.

2.    Fill or raise the pool water to its normal level - Use a hose to fill the pool up to its normal water level.

3.    Reconnect the pool equipment - Reconnect every piece of equipment that was disconnected over the winter, including the pump, filter, and heater. Turn the equipment back on and make sure that it still works properly.

4.    Adjust the chemistry of the pool - Ideally, the pool water’s pH should be within the 7.0 and 7.8 range; alkalinity should be in the 80-120 ppm range for concrete pools and 125-170 ppm range for painted, vinyl, and fiberglass pools; and calcium hardness should be within the 200-400 ppm range.

5.    Brush and vacuum the pool - After you make sure the pool chemistry is correctly adjusted, remove the dirt and debris by brushing and vacuuming the pool.

6.    Shock the pool - Last but not least, shock the pool with chlorine to eliminate all of the remaining bacteria. Use regular chlorination and circulation to keep the pool clean throughout the summer.

These simple steps will ensure that your pool is the cleanest one around this spring. If you need any help with this, contact this Lehigh County swimming pool builder today at 888-372-0102. Our employees at Carlton Pools would love to assist you in opening your pool the correct way.
